Die Erste Gottscheer Tanzgruppe

Description:  Traditional Austrian folk dance group

History:  Die Erste Gottscheer Tanzgruppe was formed in 1981, bringing “young-at-heart” Gottscheers together to celebrate common heritage and a passion for dance.  In 1997, the group expanded to incorporate the Kindergruppe, enabling the newest generation to carry on and celebrate the same traditions.

Die Erste Gottscheer Tanzgruppe practices twice a month on Tuesdays at Gottscheer Central Holding in Ridgewood, Queens.  Today our members have grown beyond just those related to the Gottscheer community, incorporating members of a diverse background with the same passion for authentic Austrian folk dance.  The group performs several times throughout the year, including local Gottscheer functions and numerous German events in the tri-state area.  Highlights of the club’s history include performing at the German Alps Festival at Hunter Mountain, Trump Taj Mahal's Oktoberfest in Atlantic City, the German-American Festival at the PNC Bank Arts Center in New Jersey, and International Night at Shea Stadium.
